I’d like to kick off a Monday & Wednesday Devotional thoughts starting with the Songs of Ascent to focus our thoughts on what many of us consider the worst day of the week (Monday) and on Wednesday mornings as a mid-week reminder.
I think the Songs of Ascent are a great place to start. They would be sung as traveling Jews climbed up to Jerusalem for the Holy Days (like Passover or Pentecost.) They are usually brief (I know yay!) and often very encouraging!
Below the cut: Our first Psalm and a Song by Casting Crowns
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD is your keeper;
the LORD is your shade on your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
8 The LORD will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore.
As you conclude today I recommend this song by Casting Crowns: I love it and it does have a refrain that comes from this psalm.
What are some times that God has helped you through or has rescued you from a situation?
What are some times you have been physically protected by God?
What are some times God has provided for you?
Thank God for the ways he has been faithful to watch over you and bring you through the ese times. If you or a friend are going through a difficult situation right now, spend some time in prayer about it. Remember to finish out with thanks and praise to God for his faithfulness. He will never leave you and you will never be left without help, no matter the situation.
